You may have noticed that here at Ashley Rowe WE. LOVE. DENIM. Between the structure, stiff nature, and endless variations of the fabric, denim is a beautiful blank canvas to work from.
Designing within the boundaries of the denim world allows for the cultivation of creativity. By sticking to minimal materials, we are challenged to explore and experiment with how we can create innovative designs while using the same materials over and over again. Our consistent use of denim creates cohesion throughout, and between collections, without falling into repetition. We are deeply invested in an ongoing love interest with denim and everything it can be.
VERSATILITY IS KEY It’s timeless, it’s sleek, it’s casual, it’s comfortable, it’s ALL THE THINGS. Dating back to the 1800’s, denim has stood the test of time. Originally, denim was created to be used as a sturdy enough garment to withstand hard work, and was mostly seen in the form of denim jeans. A pair of jeans is great and all, but we like to play with new ways to wear denim. Whether it be by dyeing the denim unexpected colors, adding hand painted or drawn details, exposing seams, or ultra-fraying hems, we are exploring alternative takes on what denim can be.
SOURCING THE DREAM DENIM
We get all of our denim from the fabric district in Los Angeles, which was formerly known as the “denim district”. The company we buy from is owned by two brothers who travel and source the most amazing denim. It’s tough to find places that truly specialize in denim nowadays; having these kinds of resources is so important.
At Ashley Rowe, we are living in a material world (and that material happens to be denim).
